I received one of these reels from Sorin this spring, but only just started using it. After a half dozen outings and numerous fish I am impressed. The fit and finish is very good. For the comp. angler the advantages soon become obvious. The reel won’t help you hook and land more fish but the ease of line management greatly reduces the chaos that often occurs when you are crotch deep in a strong current. With a few quick pumps on the lever with your pinky finger all that slack line that usually takes two hands to spool up is on the reel. This reel allows you to be instantly mobile, leaving one hand free for your wading staff, with your eyes on the water ahead, knowing that your line is under control. When stockie bashing the saved time could mean a couple of xtra fish on the scorecard. While the drag is not what you would expect from a proper conventional reel it is functional and somewhat adjustable, unlike other automatic reeIs I have seen. The spool can be removed, but doing so requires a tool and some time. One thing that is annoying about these reels is getting a grip on spooled up line. There is very little room for fingers, and trying to grab .10mm tippet with forceps is not as easy as it sounds. I made a foam line keeper that I slide on the lever with a razor slit in it to manage that. I need a couple of more of these reels.
